Licensed Vocational Nurse – Arlington

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The LVN’s job function is to care for patients and perform whatever duties the Nurse Practitioner, Clinical Director or Medical Doctor assigns, including clerical tasks. The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) will be responsible for rendering patient care in assigned area in terms of individualized client needs and conformance with recognized nursing techniques, procedures, and established standards.

The responsibilities of a clinical Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) may include:

· Utilize nursing knowledge and skills in the safe implementation of basic preventative therapeutic and rehabilitative nursing care of assigned patient/family as evidenced by documentation and observation of positive patient care outcomes.

· Perform delegated independent nursing functions using established procedures, policies, guidelines and standards as observed by the Nurse Practitioner.

· Administer medication accurately, observing patient response, as evidenced by documentation in the medical record and lack of negative outcomes

· Maintain and coordinate communication among patient/significant other, staff and physician as evidenced within medical record, client and health care team feedback.

· Assist in assuring that effective communication exists with patient/significant other as reflected in the plan of care. Give punctual change of shift report consisting of pertinent and relevant information for assigned patients.

· Work collaboratively with other members of the health care team in coordination of the patient’s care as evidenced by other department feedback.

· Assist patients, family members or other clients with concern and empathy; respect their confidentiality and privacy and communicate with them in a courteous and respectful manner.

· Answer and refer telephone calls or other inquires to ensure accurate and timely communications are facilitated.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Must be able to read, write and speak English

• Must be computer literate; experience with EMR (Electronic Health Records) is preferred

• Must have excellent communication & customer service skills

• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

• Regular attendance and timeliness are essential functions of this position and require regular and punctual employee presence

· Ability to keep your hand and arm steady while moving your arm or while holding your arm and hand in one position

· Ability to shift back and forth between two or more activities or sources of information (such as speech, sounds, touch or other sources)

· Ability to work with clinical staff and handle pressure from more than one provider

SOFT SKILLS

· The LVN is constantly working with people, so they should be patient, friendly and cheerful

· Because they will be working with personal information, they are required to be trustworthy.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing
  • Valid registration as an LVN in the state of Texas
  • Completion of relevant state Board of Nursing approved
  • Current AHA Healthcare Provider training (BCLS)
  • One year of experience in medical/surgical nursing
  • Must have a current CPR Certificate

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• These physical demands are representative of the physical requirements necessary for an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Reasonable accommodations can be made to enable people with disabilities to perform the described essential functions.

• While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to walk, talk, see and hear. Reaching for medical equipment is required, along with occasional bending and stooping.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

• This position operates in an urgent clinic setting. The role requires regular walking to various locations around the clinic and may come into contact with patients who may have contagious illnesses.

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to blood and other bodily fluids and the use of needles which exposes the employee to punctures.

• The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate, depending on patient flow.

RESPONSIBLE TO

· Nurse Practitioner, Clinical Director, Medical Doctor, Office / HR Manager, Practice Administrator

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

· This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities; however, LVN may supervise staff of MA’s in the absence of the Nurse Practitioner or Clinical Director
