About This Position

The Educator & Employee Health Nurse is responsible for the development, coordination, delivery, and evaluation of clinical education and training programs, while also managing employee health functions to ensure workforce safety, regulatory compliance, and readiness for patient care.

Job Description

This role supports staff competency, occupational health requirements, and continuous professional development through structured education, hands-on training, and compliance oversight.

Responsibilities

  • Create, produce, and distribute weekly huddle education to support ongoing clinical learning and operational updates
  • Provide onsite education including mock codes, trauma training scenarios, active shooter training, and annual disaster drills
  • Teach existing education classes and develop new education programs as identified by organizational needs, regulatory changes, or quality improvement initiatives
  • Assist with the planning, coordination, and execution of the Annual Skills Fair
  • Obtain and maintain American Heart Association (AHA) Instructor certifications for BLS, ACLS, and PALS
  • Provide instruction and oversight for AHA courses in accordance with current AHA standards and guidelines
  • Maintain a comprehensive database of staff training and certification expiration dates for all personnel
  • Ensure initial and annual compliance modules are current and aligned with the latest state regulations, accreditation requirements, and clinical guidelines
  • Review, update, and manage annual skills competencies to ensure continued proficiency across all three modalities
  • Collaborate with leadership to identify and address education, competency, or compliance gaps
  • Manage employee health services in accordance with OSHA, CDC, local, state, and federal organizational requirements
  • Track and maintain employee immunization records, titers, TB testing, respirator fit testing, and other occupational health requirements
  • Coordinate and document new hire health screenings, return-to-work clearances, and work-related exposure follow-up
  • Manage exposure incidents, including needlestick injuries, bloodborne pathogen exposures, and communicable disease exposures
  • Provide education and guidance related to infection prevention, workplace safety, and employee wellness
  • Collaborate with Human Resources, leadership, and external providers regarding employee health matters while maintaining confidentiality
  • Ensure employee health records are maintained in a secure, compliant manner
  • Assist with the creation of educational videos for ER All-Staff meetings and TotalCare YouTube channel
  • Support innovative educational delivery methods, including digital and multimedia learning tools
  • Daily operations of the facility including but not limited to: maintenance, inventory, housekeeping, linen services, and proper function of the utilities
  • May have to provide back-up nursing assistance to the staff while in facilities if needed

Requirements

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality; routine duties involve a high level of exposure to Protected Health Information (PHI) with strict adherence to HIPAA regulations
  • Strong interpersonal, teaching, facilitation, and organizational skills
  • Demonstrate knowledge and clinical skills necessary to provide high-quality patient care
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English to converse with patients; additional languages are an advantage but not required
  • Ability to accurately read and write medical terminology
  • Strong judgment and leadership skills as well as ability to be a high-functioning team player
  • Knowledge of OSHA & HIPAA standards and requirements

Schedule

Education & Certifications

  • Active RN license and licensed to work in the state of Texas
  • CPR/BLS Certification (AHA) required
  • ACLS Certification (AHA) required
  • PALS Certification (AHA) required; if not active upon hire, must obtain within 90 days
  • AHA Instructor Certifications (BLS, ACLS, PALS) required within 90 days of hire
  • TNCC Certification required; if not current at hire, must be obtained within 12 months
  • ENPC Certification required; if not current at hire, must be obtained within 12 months
  • ENA membership preferred but not required
  • Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience (Emergency or acute care required)
  • Knowledge of OSHA, CDC, and state regulatory requirements related to Employee Health
  • Proficiency with computer systems, learning management systems, and tracking databases
  • Prior experience in clinical education, staff development, or employee/occupational health preferred
  • Video creation or instructional design experience preferred

Physical Demands

Must be able to bend, lift, twist, sit and/or stand/walk for up to 12 hours daily. Communicate with patients and/or fellow staff members who have inquiries; must be able to exchange accurate information. Must be able to move between work areas, office machinery, patient exam rooms and to other various locations throughout the facility. Must be able to see the computer screen and able to participate in training classes where computer screens are referenced or by handouts and/or hands-on training.

Work Environment

No adverse environmental conditions; position is located indoors. Some risk of physical exertion. This position involves exposure to blood, bodily fluids or tissues as well as airborne contagions. Proper PPE is provided for employee protection when needed. Travel Requirements: Travel between TotalCare facilities and administration buildings for meetings, training sessions or coverage will arise and is considered within the scope of this position.
